On January 26, 2006 renowned author Luis Alberto Urrea visited the Kankakee Public Library. Mr. Urrea, a member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame, is the critically acclaimed author The Devil's Highway and The Hummingbird's Daugher, was well as 11 other books. He is also an award-winning poet and essayist. During his talk, Mr Urrea spoke of doing the emotionally difficult research for the Devil's Highway, growing up in a Mexican family, the sudden success of The Hummingbird's Daughter, and the politics of immigration in the 21st century. 1 hr. 5 min.
